ROUND 2, same bloody result as last week… 0 on our scoreboard but I’m holding onto faith, give it a couple more rounds and we’ll start gelling together.

Our ladies in Red and Black welcomed Brisbane Roar to Marconi Stadium, on this fine warm Sydney afternoon (Not a cloud in the sky but there’s the typical Western Sydney smog that makes up for it).

The first half seemed intense as could be, with every second minute that passed on the Marconi field, a set of fouls were given, multiple times to both sides. A foul here, a foul there, everywhere a foul. Can’t blame the intensity of wanting to get this game over and done with, our ladies need those points and they need a win to lift their spirits after the home defeat to rivals, Sydney FC. Not to mention, it’s hot as hell…

The West Sydney summer has arrived and it’s 5 more degrees here than anywhere else in the city. The East don’t know how well they have it.

Playing well, with high momentum and speed in the first 20 minutes, loving how these ladies are finding giant pockets in the Roar defence when they can, and using it to their advantage.

We have a few cracks on goal, some just not enough to make an impact, some very close to turning the tide to ensure this is our game. What caused us damage though, wasn’t another yellow card before half time but a goal from a free kick by Carson Pickett. Perfect position to skid right past the 2 woman wall, to surprise Jada Whyman. 1 – 0 ….and I felt that right in the chest :’)

A chance to equalise, Uzunlar with a crack and Mackenzie Arnold with an great save, TWICE! So close yet so far as we all call for a goal that looks likes, from where I’m standing, WENT IN! HAS IT PASSED THE LINE? HASN’T IT!? We’ll never know… (it passed, dammit!)

We’re back to square 1! It’s still 1 – 0 and the tension rises, I’m bobbing my knee nervously as I watch my girls as we continue into the second half. We’re playing so well, chances upon chances, next comes a free kick from Ledbrook, 40 metres out. It’s on it’s way in, I’m convinced this is going to be the equaliser, then I find myself cursing out loud one minute and then clapping for the pure class, that is Mackenzie Arnold, the next.

Lemmi tell ya something, as on edge as I am, this Brisbane Roar team is a joy to watch because they’re not making it easy for us at all.

As we continue, we get chances by Yeoman-Dale, chances by Cooper, chances by Siemsen, CHANCES THAT AREN’T GOING IN AND IT’S ABOUT NOW, MY LEG THAT HAS BEEN BOBBING UP AND DOWN NERVOUSLY, HAS CREATED A HOLE IN THE GROUND LIKE A JACKHAMMER!

The whistle blows, we’ve received the same result that haunted us last round, it didn’t go our way again, but like I mentioned the week prior, we’re getting there. I swear, we are. These ladies are amazing on paper, hard working on the training ground and all in good time, they’ll get their chance again to show it on the field. They already basically do! We just need a goal to finish it off! We’ve seen the skill that each of them have in teams and seasons in the past. We just need that one last spark to light the fire of what is, THIS Western Sydney Wanderers Womens team.

MARK MY WORDS! A win is coming to West Sydney.
