Jets v City Semi-Final Match Review

Riley McGree’s magic not only sends Newcastle Jets into the Grand Final, but plants the A-League on the World map.

The Jets booked their finals spot with a come-from-behind 2-1 win courtesy of McGree’s sensational scorpion kick and Jason Hoffman’s winner.

Bruno Fornaroli opened the scoring for City, when Dario Vidosic’s low cross bounced off Fornaroli’s knee and dribbled over the line as Nikolai Topor-Stanley tried his best to clear.

Newcastle lacked the killer instinct in front of goal, failing to put away their chances which gave the visitors the ascendency.

In a majestic second-half performance, McGree equalised with a freakish scorpion kick from the edge of the area over a helpless Dean Bouzanis.

With 75 minutes gone, Dimi Petratos and Joey Champness combined to work the ball into the box. The ball is then miscontrolled by Osama Malik, who had been superb up until this point, and falls to Hoffman who finished into the bottom right corner.

The Jets will learn their fate after Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory face-off tonight.
