Remy Siemsen with more braces than a teenager

Even more Remy Siemsen brilliance, a howler from Claire Coelho while playing the ball out from the back and a fantastic goal scoring gif from Sydney FC pretty much sums up the Sky Blues 2-0 victory over the Jets in Newcastle.

It’s Self-Care Sunday and I’m combining my face mask and a glass of bubbly (Xmas selfcare) with the two Jets matches I decided to cover so ahh… cheers everyone.

In the lead up to this match @ashkrieger released the ‘angry alanna fancam’ compilation gif timed perfectly for Alanna Kennedy’s return to the starting line-up. Please, do yourself a favour and watch it now if the #SokkahTwitter peeps you follow haven’t already pushed it into your feed.*

On this note, if you haven’t seen this brilliant piece of cinematography (yep) you need to start following new people.

Keen to brush off last week’s 2-1 defeat to the league leaders, Sydney started off strong with Princess Ibini and Siemsen trying to link up early on.

Caitlin Foord, Chloe Logarzo and Ellie Brush all found great areas before the Jets even had a sniff on goal. I know those teddy bears are for charity but I feel like the crowd really needed some hugs.

Coelho was great in goal for the Jets for the most part, making a brilliant acrobatic save in the 28th to deny Teresa Polias’ long range strike.

Siemsen has been crazy good lately, so it was no surprise when she got on the score sheet in the 31st. Angelique Hristodoulou played a perfectly weighted cross to meet the glorious head of Siemsen, who of course put the visitors ahead 0-1.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate Sydney FCs goal scoring gif for Siemsen? From ‘Goal Scoring of Dummies’ to the little wink at the end it’s peak gif making. If I had a hat on I would have tipped it.

Siemson again looked close to finding the back of the net in the 38th but didn’t get enough contact on the ball to really challenge Coelho.

Almost half of the Sky Blues team had chances to double their lead before half time (I’m not even kidding, this team is scary) but the shaky Jet’s backline managed to keep them at bay.

Any hope of a fresh start for the Jets was abandoned early in the second half when Coelho made an absolute howler at the back in the 50th minute. Looking to play out from the back, Coelho’s attempt to pass to her teammate ended in disaster as Siemsen intercepted and found the back of the net making it 0-2. Gotta feel for Coelho there and but also for my fantasy team as I forgot to move Siemsen into the ‘Queen Bees’ for the third week running.

Despite the score line, the Jets still had some fight in their side. Libby Copus-Brown has that never say die attitude that belongs in a Nike ad or a Fiona Crawford book. Both Copus-Brown and Hannah Brewer forced Aubrey Bledsoe into action late on. Clare Wheeler had a great chance in the 83rd with a powerful long-range strike yet Bledsoe somehow got fingertips to it to push the ball over the crossbar. Fair play to Bledsoe, she didn’t have a lot to do in this game but when she did, she damn well made sure she got the job done.

*EDIT: since writing this article @ashkrieger’s work has been noticed by the legend, AK, herself so I’m pretty sure you’ve seen it. If not, get yourself on Twitter pronto.
